Awesome news today……my fiance received a raise at work!! Woo hoo! Now the graphic may be a little misleading because we are not swimming in cash all of a sudden. Although that would be nice. Her total raise amounts to 2% starting immediately.
In dollar terms, she is now earning an extra $600 per year, for a total of $30,600 in yearly salary. Broken down further, we will see a $50/month increase in her gross paycheck.
Not earth-shattering, but every little bit counts and it should be reason to celebrate any time we receive an increase. Between the two of us, this is our FIRST raise since graduating college. And all the more exciting is that she has not worked at her company for a full year. She has only been full-time for 9 months.
The raise was completely unexpected too. Performance reviews and merit raises are still several months away. But my fiance was recognized as a hard worker, quick learner, and overall productive employee. Her manager felt a raise was warranted as a way to say “keep up the good work”.
Our overall budget will not change much. As I mentioned above, this will be an increase of $50/month to her gross paycheck. When you take out taxes, social security, medicare, and 401k contributions — the actual net increase to her paycheck will be closer to $20/month.
We certainly will not go out and celebrate with an expensive dinner. But tonight as we cook our own meal at home, we’ll toast to the fun and unexpected surprise!
Alright the graphic may be a little misleading!
